Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playmate and reality TV star – remember her E! series The Anna Nicole Show – has died at the age of 39. She was found unconscious and unresponsive in her Florida hotel room. She was pronounced dead at 2:49 EST on Thursday February 8, 2007.
Anna Nicole had arrived at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Monday with her companion, Howard K. Stern. Around 1:45 pm, she was given CPR by a bodyguard in a desperate attempt to revive her.
The cause of death is yet to be determined. However, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will be performing the autopsy.
On September 10, 2006 Anna Nicole’s 20 year-old son, Daniel, died while visiting his mother in a Bahamian hospital. A lethal combination of antidepressants and methodone was the culprit in his untimely and tragic demise. Anna Nicole, who had given birth to her second child, Danielynn Hope, only a few days prior to Daniel’s death, was devastated by the loss.
She also faced a paternity battle with her former beau, photographer Larry Birkhead. He claimed to be Danielynn’s father. Anna Nicole has gone on record saying that Mr. Stern, her former attorney, is the father.
Birkhead’s, lawyer, Debora Opri announced that Birkhead was “inconsolable” after hearing about Smith’s death and is “taking steps now to protect the DNA testing of the child.” Opri and Birkhead would like Anna Nicole’s body DNA tested before the family can claim it.
As Ms. Opri said, “Now it's time to put up or shut up. This is despicable what's been happening, and it's got to end. Anna Nicole Smith is dead at the age of 39 because of a lifestyle. I do not want that child anywhere near [Smith's partner] Howard K. Stern, and that's all I'm going to say about it.”
