Immigration Minister, Shane Gibson has tendered his resignation. The Bahamian official has apologized to his countrymen “for any embarrassment he may have caused.” Photos recently appeared in a newspaper which showed him in bed with Anna Nicole Smith. Both were fully clothed, but, due to the fact that Gibson fast-tracked the former Playmate’s application for residency in the Bahamas, controversy has followed.

Gibson has said that he and Anna Nicole were just friends. There was never anything sexual between them and he never abused his position “by granting Anna Nicole Smith any permit of which she was undeserving or for which she was not qualified under the laws of the Bahamas.”

Perry Christie, the Bahamian Prime Minister has accepted Gibson’s resignation and believes that this is “the correct course of action for him to take in all of the circumstances.”

Anna Nicole’s partner, Howard K. Stern, who’s currently in court battling over her remains with Anna Nicole’s mother, Vergie Arthur and her ex-beau, photographer Larry Birkhead, released a statement to the television show Entertainment Tonight about Shane Gibson’s relationship with Anna Nicole.

He says that relationship with Gibson was not close until after Daniel’s death in September 2006. At that point, “The entire Gibson family - not just Minister Gibson - provided a great deal of emotional support to both Anna Nicole and I during a very difficult period. They came to the house to pray with us on too many occasions to count.” Stern also makes it clear that "We never asked any member of the Gibson family to do anything illegal or in any way improper and none of them have ever done so.”
