Carrie Underwood won two Grammys at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 11, 2007. The country star took home a statue for Best Female Country Performance (“Jesus Take the Wheel) and Best New Artist. “Jesus Take the Wheel” also earned an award for Best Country Song. This one went to the songwriters, however.
During her speech for the Best New Artist award, Carrie thanked American Idol, the show that made her famous. Carrie, who won the fourth season of the popular talent competition, said, “This is absolutely unbelievable. I owe everything to [Idol creator] Simon Fuller and [her record company and Idol producer] 19 [Entertainment].”
Carrie beat out James Blunt, Chris Brown, Imogene Heap and Corinne Bailey Rae for the Best New Artist award. In the Best Female Country Performance category she was up against Martina McBride (“I Still Miss Someone”), Miranda Lambert (“Kerosene”), LeAnn Rimes (“Something’s Gotta Give”) and Gretchen Wilson (“I Don’t Feel Like Loving You Today”).
Ms. Underwood, who’s currently rumored to be dating British singer, Oliver Trevena, joined Rascal Flatts onstage to sing “Desperado” and “San Antonio Rose”.
