The lovely and talented Katharine McPhee, the runner-up of Season 5's American Idol, has a hit debut album, gorgeous dark looks and a budding film career. Yup! The 20-something former student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston will be the star of the "indie dark romantic comedy The Last Caller," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The flick, written by Michael Albanese, is described as a "coming-of-age tale about a self-possessed woman (McPhee) who searches for love, hope and meaning during a few random events with other urban seekers." Shooting is scheduled to start in New York sometime this fall.

Kat said about the film that "this is the first thing that I read that I really wanted to do." She is aware that it's a departure for her and admits that the role is "something that a lot of people wouldn't expect me doing." The character is apparently a bit "darker" than McPhee herself is.
