Boston Rob Mariano has not had enough of reality TV yet, and this time it's good news for us. Instead of having us watch yet another chapter in the ongoing Romber saga, the 'average joes and jills' amongst us will get the opportunity to compete for “the biggest cash prize in the history of reality TV - $10 million,” so sez the press release.
The series has the unfortunate name Tontine (not even sure what it means but for $10 mil who the bleep cares!). Tontine will features 15 people competing in 100 days worth of physical and mental challenges. They'll each try to get the keys that the other contestants have. When one contestant holds all the keys, he or she will get all the cash.
(Update – a 'tontine' is an agreement which allows a group of folks contribute to a common fund. The last person remaining in the tontine gets all the money. Ahhh...now it makes sense.)
The casting tour for the series kicks off in Dallas, TX on June 30, 2007. Mariano, who will host the series, will head to each location in the tricked-out and armored transport truck with casting director Tad Frank, who has also worked on Survivor and the Amazing Race.
The series is scheduled to premiere sometime in the spring of 2008 on a network TBD at a later date.
