MySpace, the biggest social networking site on the web, is teaming up with reality TV guru, Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice, etc.) to find contestants for a series that focused on politics that will heat up during next year’s presidential race.
As part of the action, MySpace users “would run for office by submitting videos and conducting virtual campaigns for votes. The top 100 or so would make it to the TV series, which would end with debates. The winner would get $1 million to give away.” Well, according to the Hollywood Reporter, they will “be required to either donate to a political cause or to their own future political campaign.”
The show, which I currently using the working title Independent, doesn’t have a network home yet. However, since Newscorp owns both FOX and MySpace, they’re the ones expected to pick it up. Burnett hopes that the series will look “for the voice of independent young Americans.”
