Heather Mills (Credit: ABC) Heather Mills, the soon-to-be-ex-wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney, will be starring on this installment of Dancing with the Stars. The lovely former model lost her leg in a 1993 traffic accident and has used a prosthetic ever since. This hasn’t slowed down the athletic activist one bit.
Online bookmaker, Bodog is taking odds as to whether Mills’ leg will fall off during the competition. According to Reuters, the “Antigua-based gaming site opened bets on whether her prosthetic leg would fly off during a dance routine -- and made "no" a heavy favourite.” Apparently, her leg must fall off and not be purposely taken off during a dance routine for “all Yes wagers to be graded a win.”
Mills joked about the possibility with Extra, the celebrity entertainment news show, last week. She said, “I have no fear; I’m quite happy to be thrown around and hopefully my leg will stay on. It’s very, very unlikely my leg's going to fly off, even though it’d be funny to knock one of the judges out.”
Heather, who has had only three weeks to learn to rumba, is practicing at home with her 3 year old daughter, Beatrice. She’s been spotted heading to rehearsals with spare prosthetic legs in her bag. “We’re trying to work out which one is going to work for which heel height because what people don’t realize is when you have a leg made it is only made for specific heel height,” Heather explained. “You can’t go from high heel leg and put your trainers on. You’ve got to swap your legs.”
Heather joins Joey Fatone, Laila Ali, John Ratzenberger, a last-minute replacement for former Sopranos-star Vincent Pastore and the rest of the star-studded cast for the new season of Dancing with the Stars beginning on Monday March 19 at 8pm ET.
