Dr. Adrian Cohen, who is based out of Sydney, Australia, has been around the world with Survivor as the medical director for the reality TV series. This week he’s making headlines not for saving lives. Rather, the doc, who has also worked on the sets of Baywatch, Eco-Challenge and Mission Impossible 2, has been accused of using the name of patients to ‘self-medicate’. Yes, he’s written scripts for patients that he’s used for himself.
The doctor has used medical cocaine in the past, saying that it was “spasmodic and unpredictable” and only occurred due to the stress associated with his “unique business.” Dr. Cohen is the founder and CEO of Immediate Assistants
Claims have also been made that Dr. Cohen sold some of the wholesale drugs he obtained questionably on the sets of the shows he’s worked on. He does say that he did use prescription drugs from special “Doctor’s Bags” which are provided by pharmaceutical companies for emergency situations only. He mentions an incident while filming Survivor: Amazon in which he treated a local who had been badly injured in a machete fight and defends the practice because of the isolation of the filming locations.
He is currently under investigation by Australian medical authorities for these practices. The results of the hearing will be released once the proceedings conclude. It is also unknown if he will continue working with Mark Burnett.
