Doug Blasdell, a 44 year old openly gay man who worked as a trainer for Jackie Warner at Sky Sports and Spa and was featured as part of her reality TV show, Work Out, has died on Monday. He had been hospitalized over the weekend for unknown reasons.
Doug, who was from L.A., became the first member of his family to attend college. He graduated in 1988. Doug enjoyed being part of the series, which was renewed in October, because it showed the gay lifestyle in a very positive way.
Singer Jody Watley, who was a client and close friend of Doug’s – her transformation was followed closely on the series – mentions that he was undergoing chemotherapy for a brain tumor. He had also many in his family including a grandmother and both of his parents to the disease.
Doug referred to himself as the ‘daddy’ of the show because he was older than his counterparts will be greatly missed. Bravo released this statement about his death:
“All of us at Bravo are deeply saddened by the terrible news of Doug Blasdell's untimely passing. He was an inspiring trainer, an exuberant colleague who made the gym a very fun place each and every day, and was extraordinarily warm in all aspects of his life. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his many friends and colleagues at this very difficult time."
