Janusz Liberkowski (Credit: ABC) Janusz Liberkowski won the first season of ABC’s American Inventor by developing a “Spherical Safety Seat,” a new kind of infant car seat where the baby sits “nested inside spheres instead of the usual seat.” If a collision occurs, “the spheres spin and automatically position the child’s back and neck so that they are perpendicular to the impact force, thus shielding the baby from the destructive force of the impact.”
Liberkowski, a 52 year old dad of toddler twins, suffered the tragic loss of a child. His daughter, Anecia died in a car accident seven years ago. He hopes that his invention can help save the lives of other children.
American Inventor is the brainchild of Simon Cowell – yes, that Simon Cowell – and the producers of American Idol. It is the biggest search for America’s best new invention. It premiered last March in ABC and will return for a second installment on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 9pm ET.
This season, judges will award $50,000 to each of the semifinalists. They will also be given time to develop their ideas further. In the end, only one winner will be chosen with the help of the American television voting public. That lucky individual will receive $1,000,000.
So, do you think you have an idea for the best new product?
