On Tuesday April 10, 2007 a Bahamian court answered the question that’s been on everyone’s lips for months, “Who is Dannielynn’s daddy?” As the DNA results were revealed, Larry Birkhead, the photographer who claimed from the start that he was indeed the baby’s father, was vindicated. DNA expert Michael Baird confirmed that there was more than a 99.9% certainty of his being the child’s father. Birkhead happily said to reporters upon leaving the courthouse, “I hate to be the one to tell you this but, I told you so.”
Of course, nothing but the child’s paternity has been decided upon as of yet. Dannielynn currently remains in the custody of Anna Nicole’s partner and former attorney, Howard K. Stern. A heartbroken Stern said that he is “not going to fight Larry Birkhead for custody.” He is hoping for a gradual transition so that the baby “can adjust.”
Birkhead has already visited the baby. He “changed his daughter’s diaper and fed her apple sauce” with Stern’s coaching. He announced today that he does not intend to share custody of Dannielynn with anyone because “"It would imply that I'm unfit as a parent, which I'm not." He added that he’s “looking forward to giving Dannielynn everything that she needs and all the love and support."
Virgie Arthur, Anna Nicole’s mother, might take legal action to secure at least partial custodial rights. However, Birkhead says that he’s “hoping that's not the case because, you know, there's only one dad, and I have no problem with anyone that has good intentions being allowed to visit the baby and see the baby and be a part of the baby's life.”
