Richard Hatch won the first season of Survivor. Last year the guy who loved to lounge around naked in Borneo much to the chagrin of his fellow castaways made headlines for tax evasion. He was convicted for failing to pay taxes on his one million dollar payday from the reality TV show.
Hatch was sentenced to 51 months in prison. He’s currently at the Federal Correctional Institute in Morgantown, WV. The minimum-security prison is apparently a far-cry from the “six horrendous months” he spent at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Plymouth, MA.
The native Rhode Islander can’t wait to go home and doesn’t “apologize for anything.” He is also working on a book that “he should have no trouble getting published” which chronicles his audition for the reality TV series that made him a star and will end with his time in lock-up.
Hatch originally claimed that CBS failed to pay the taxes on his winnings. "The allegations have no merit, and certainly no one connected with the show agreed to pay the taxes on Richard's prize money," CBS spokeswoman Colleen Sullivan told People.
