I’m not going to go over the recap of last night’s Idol Gives Back benefit. Personally, I couldn’t watch the whole thing. I have this allergy to self-righteous superstars who urge you to give to charity and think they’re doing something so great by warbling a tune or telling us how rough it is out there for people they can’t relate to. What I’d prefer to know is … how much are these people giving to the charities they’re asking us to support? Their incomes are far greater than ours, and, well, put your money where you mouths are instead of giving us lip service.
(I know not everyone just pays lip service to a cause, but…I’m tired of celebs who pretend to care or use charity as a vehicle to get the public on their side. That’s all. Admit it, you know there are some out there like that!)
Now that I’ve vented, I must say that there’s not a lot to report anyway because, as Seacrest told us, “All your favorites are still in the competition. How could we let anyone go on a charity night?”
Sure, I understand this was a charity week, but…
It’s not really fair to the rest of the individuals who’ve sung over seasons and seasons of American Idol, is it? I understand that they’re going to take the votes from this week and add them to next week’s total amount to determine the next singer to get the boot, but this smacks of scandal, doesn't it?
I’ve gotta wonder since Melinda Doolittle was, according to DialIdol, in the bottom of the pack, with Chris Richardson, if the producers decided to save their favorite, hoping that next week she’ll come through with a performance people will actually like, but I'm not naming names.
I guess I’m getting sick of American Idol’s stunts and the fact that the producers seem to be no better than Howard Stern and the folks at votefortheworst.com who championed Sanjaya (now they’re moving on to Phil Stacey) for so long.
This crappy season reminds me more and more of the 2000 election. There are no decent candidates and everything's just a little shady. I guess we're learning that even in the world of reality TV, our votes don’t count.
Am I being too over-the-top, or do you think there's some validity to my statements? Comment below. I wanna know.
