You know – we’ve been patient with CBS. We have been watching and hoping all season that the network would do right by the contestants. However, time and again they’ve disappointed us. First of all, the twist was unfair. It immediately gave Dick and Daniele Donato the advantage. Sure, they were ‘estranged’, but a father, who loves his daughter like Dick obviously does, will move heaven and earth for her. Family is a built-in alliance. The old saying: “blood is thicker than water” and all that.
Then, there was the verbal, mental and near-physical abuse. Dick has been devious. He’s been Evel. He’s been rude, crude and just horrendous to people. There’s nothing funny about his tactics. His schtick that it’s “all game” is a ridiculous cop-out. Obviously, the Donatos ascribe to the “end justifies the means” mentality.
However, what a horrible end to a real horrific season this brings us. The jury gets no justice. Zach and Jameka tried to make a play to take one of the Donatos out, but it was too little, too little. We were seriously rooting for Zach, who, in our book, became more and more interesting as the season wore on. How he dealt with seven hours of Dick’s berating to win Round One of the HOH Challenge, we’ll never know. We don’t buy his explanation that he just ‘tuned Dick out.’
We were watching and we couldn’t. Okay, maybe Zach’s an ex-Marine or a Zen Master. Those are the only two ways we can see him getting over the onslaught of the Donato Disrespect Machine.
Sure, Dick and Dani have had touching moments together. Dick, for all his flaws, loves his child. He’s made mistakes and admits them and wants to make things right with Dani. However, what has he taught his daughter through his behavior? Is it ever okay to abuse others to get what you want, even if it’s “only a game”?
We think not. We aren’t sure we’re going to watch the finale, and well, we’ve decided that unless CBS issues some sort of apology for this season, we think the best punishment is to ignore this show and the ‘reality stars’ it’s tried to force upon us this season.
