VH-1 has had major hits with crazy reality shows like Flavor of Love and I Love New York. Apparently, the network figures that they have to turn each and every one of their shows into a melodramatic psycho-fest for people to watch.
Celebrity Fit Club is the latest casualty of the drama downgrade. In this case, it’s a definite down grade. Why? Celebrity Fit Club isn’t supposed to about divas and dingbats. At least it shouldn’t be. It’s about people trying to lose weight and get healthy. That’s hard enough without adding crazy to the mix.
Yeah, I know. The show had problems with Daniel Baldwin and Jeff Conaway before. There’s one issue each season. However, this season things are so blatant. I think “Screech” is in on the joke. I mean he comes onto the show and says he’s not going to follow the diet.
Really? You go on a ‘diet’ show and say you aren’t going to follow the diet, and the producers think this is a great idea. Why? To exploit you…or you willingly decide you’re gonna be the bad guy to get camera time.
I think Dustin is in on the joke. He asked the cameras to film his tirade against his cast members last week. He had to know that they’d use it against him, and boy did they.
ANT and everyone has expended a lot of energy trying to get Dustin to stay when he says he wants to leave. Oh please! Let his dumb, dramatic ass go. Oh no! You can’t. He’s your ratings cash cow. You can’t let him go.
And this stupid feud with Kimberley Locke. Is this all a ruse to help promote her new album coming out, you know the one that they show during each commercial break? Puh-lease! Kimberley Locke isn’t innocent, and she’s not the good girl she thinks she is. She’s annoying and bitchy. Yeah, I said it. She’s acting like a bitch.
I actually have less respect for her now than I did before this show started. Da Brat is a big talker but cowers in a corner when called out on it. She didn’t even get razzed like Dustin did. Neither one of them lost weight this week. Brat said she likes to drink when she’s at Da Club which is why she’s falling off her diet.
Then, there’s Cledus. This poor man has a lot of mental issues. He’s afraid to go to a grocery store. I’ve never met anyone with a grocery store phobia before. The poor dude also has an eating disorder and is frightened of air planes. He needs major therapeutic help.
I guess I’m annoyed that VH-1 is so blatant about their manipulation of an unscripted series. It’s sad that folks like Dustin Diamond, Kimberley Locke and other N-listers would put themselves through this kind of abuse and misuse for camera time. Is fame so important or special that people are willing to give up their self-respect to extend it?
The sad thing is that we continue to watch and reward this kind of manipulation. I mean I’m sort of invested to see how this season turns out. I want to know if Cledus gets the help he needs. I’d like to see Ross the Intern get a handle on his self-esteem issues. I want Maureen McCormick to reach her weight-loss goals. I’m just tired of the extraneous bull crap, the emotional junk food that gets shoved down our throats and is supposed to pass for entertainment.
What about y’all? Do you think Dustin’s in on the joke, or do you feel the producers are misusing and abusing him? Are you watching Fit Club? Am I just being menopausal? Let me know below.
