Danny & Oswald (Credit: Amazing Race Wiki - CBS)
Danny and Oswald wanted to run a clean race. This meant that they would never Yield anyone. The Yield is a TAR tool in which one team gives another a time penalty before they can complete a task.
However, as Oswald said, “money is the root of all evil.” For the past two legs, D&O have been low on funds. That’s ‘cuz Danny had to pay for newspapers in Singapore to finish a nasty Roadblock that the pretty blonde gals whizzed through.
So, when they arrived in Macau and spent 50 dollars on a cab ride, they knew they were in big trouble. They made a deal with the ‘devils’ so to speak—Dustin & Kandice. The former beauty queens are playing a dirty game. They Yielded already (you can only do it once). They lie and argue with others. Oswald & Danny sell the gals their Yield. The beauty queens pay $45 for the privilege of pushing Eric & Danielle further back in the pack.
This only motivates the underdogs, and they finish in second behind Dustin & Kandice. Eric & Danielle officially hate Oswald & Danny now and keep talking about Karma. Oswald & Danny feel so guilty that they make some serious mistakes and stick with a bad taxi driver so they come in last.
However, they feel they deserve it because they treated Eric & Danielle so badly.
Oh please! This is a game, folks. You can’t take a Yield personally. Oswald & Danny, you did what you needed to do to get further in the game. You should stop apologizing and feeling guilty. Play the game and win if you can. However, now you’re marked for elimination and down-trodden. You’ve only got yourselves to blame, not Karma, for your loss of position.
Don’t worry about Eric & Danielle. A million dollars is at stake. Sure, they’re upset at you, but…that’s their issue. Not yours. They wouldn’t give you any of their money if they won, would they? Will they pay your bills? Help out your families? No.
Reality TV competitions are competitions. Would you not buy a piece of choice real estate in Monopoly so you can save it for your friend? Alrighty then.
Sure, I don’t approve of the way Dustin & Kandice play, but I think that the end can justify the means sometimes. This is probably one of those times.
What do you think?
