I’ve been an avid watcher of Criss Angel since before the Mindfreak series began airing on A&E TV. Angel is the ultimate showman. He lives to please his crowd. He’s truly there for the fans and the magic. Criss is a magic geek and a perfectionist. He’s always trying to top himself and everyone else.
However, I am scared for him. I really think that someday I’m going to read the news and find out the Angel, nee Christopher Sarantakos, had died while performing one of his stunts. During the third season of Mindfreak, even though it’s only a few episodes old, I’ve been scared for him.
So far, Criss has been dropped into a heated pool after being tied up in Samoan knots by Dog the Bounty Hunter and his family. He’s also levitated above the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas. The stunt that has freaked me out the most thus far is the one in which he lays on a bunch of jagged glass (ouch) and allows a steamroller to drive over his shirtless body.
I’m just wondering what kind of mind thinks of these things. I’ve never woken up in the morning and said, “Hey, you know what would be a great thing to do today? I think I’ll lie down on a bed of jagged glass and have a steamroller run over me while I’m half-naked.”
I know that his team seems to be concerned for him. I am certain his mother and brothers would like to stop him. I know that there is the desire to be the best and the most outrageous. Criss has even said that he’s been scared for himself in his interview segments this season. I just would like to know why he feels compelled to push the envelope further and further into such dangerous territory.
I also wonder why I keep watching him do this death-defying stuff.
Editor Note: For those of you who aren’t “faithful” to Criss Angel, Mindfreak airs on A&E TV Tuesdays at 10 pm EST.
