Last week on Man Band, we saw the guys (Chris, Bryan, Jeff and Rich) work on a new song. We must admit it sounded pretty good in the studio. However, they were given less than three days to prepare for a live performance. Manager Katie McNeil thought it would be a great idea for the fellas to perform their brand-new song during halftime at an Orlando Magic game.
The guys were dead-set against it. We can’t blame them. They hadn’t gotten the lyrics down. Bryan’s been dealing with his weight and alcohol issues. The group has only been together for a week or so, and, as former Boy Banders, each of the men wanted to wait a bit to perfect their routine before unleashing it on a live audience.
They expressed their concerns to Miss Kate. She didn’t listen, and the performance happened. They got boo-ed as they feared. It was embarrassing and upsetting for the guys. Chris almost quit the endeavor he was so disheartened by it all. Instead he went to a bar with Jeff and Rich. Bryan wisely went back to the house. Like his wife, Kim, we were totally impressed that Bryan made the smart move to take care of himself and not deal with his disappointment by drinking.
At the bar, the guys’ song was playing. This time the reaction was good. They needed that.
The next morning, however, the guys were brought back down again. Needlessly. Miss Kate made them listen to morning radio shows panning their performance and picking on the guys’ ages, weights and all of that. It was cruel. Kate said it was so the guys could learn from this and move on.
Bullsh*t. It was a sadistic exercise that didn’t help the guys. Even worse was when she forced them to watch the performance again.
Kate later told the cameras that she thought this was good for the guys. It bonded them. Luckily, she’s not a psychotherapist. The suicide rate among her patients, we think, would be rather high.
At the end of the episode, the guys decide to meet with Kate. Chris says he wants to fire her. Should the band fire Kate? We think so. A manager isn’t supposed to coddle you, but she or he is supposed to have your back. Kate doesn’t seem to have enough compassion for these guys to help them take their careers to the next level.
What do y’all think? Are we being too hard on Miss Kate? Should the guys fire her @$$?
