Jes is Bret's Rock of Love (Credit: Vh1 Celebreality Blog)
All season, we’ve wondered exactly what Bret Michaels was searching for on “Rock of Love.” We figured that the “Poison” front man wasn’t really looking for love. We just know that these reality TV dating shows never work out. We’ve been through two seasons of “Flavor of Love”, oodles of “Bachelor” break-ups and an “I Love New York”.
We don’t think love can be found on reality TV. It’s just not how the mating ritual is meant to be played out.
However, knowing this, we still got sucked into “Rock of Love.” We cared about Bret. We wanted him to find a nice woman who could handle herself and the craziness of his life, not to mention, be a part of his daughters’ lives, with grace, dignity, intelligence and more. As the weeks wore on, we became invested in this process. We became enamored of Jes.
We think she’s a cool, smart, sweet, sensitive girl who could make Bret happy if he decided he wanted to be with her. Last night, we were so glad when he chose Jes over Heather. Not to take anything away from Heather. She’s super-cool, smart and tough. She’s also a loyal lady who really fell hard for Bret. We felt bad for her when she told Bret she was in love with him, and he couldn’t say it back.
We felt her hurt and anger after Bret asked the ladies if they would be willing to share him. Heather said she would because she just wanted him in her life. Jes stuck to her guns and won Bret’s affection this way.
Now, Bret and Jes haven’t seen each other since the wrap-up of the show. Well, not until the “Reunion” was taped a few weekends ago. This is not the way to build a fledgling relationship. If Jes and Bret had a chance to make things work, the separation isn’t going to help matters.
Of course, VH-1 is already casting for the next “Rock of Love.” They’re picking ladies despite the fact that they have yet to announce who the rocker will be. We think that’s so special. Sure, we’ll watch, but…the truth is that these are people’s lives and emotions we’re watching being played with. Although we’re happy Jes “won”, what does that mean? Did she and Bret win much of anything in exchange for the agony they went through as a result of this dating ‘experiment’?
We think the jury’s still out on that one. What about you?
