Perry Farrell, former lead singer of Jane's Addiction, released his first CD with new project, Satellite Party, at the end of May. The conceptual was inspired, in part, by guitarist Dave Navarro's decision to host the Rock Star series on CBS. (Note: Rock Star has not been renewed for a third season by the network so we're just not sure of its status.)
Perry tells Launch Radio that "my band broke up basically over reality TV, and I just couldn't believe it." He also adds that "rock and roll has never been about kissing ass and a contest."
Navarro, for his part, is too busy to comment. He's got various projects in the works including a recent stint as a judge at the 2007 Miss Universe Pageant, recording a new album with The Panic Channel and his new TV show called Spread Entertainment: Live Thursdays on ManiaTV.com.
Dave says that he's having "one of the best times I've ever had in a creative environment because I have complete control and there aren't any rules." The series is part talk, part performance show from the Dragonfly club in H-wood. He'll showcase some indie bands and utilize interactive "elements" such as "viewer-submitted clips and Skype."
Dave admits that he's "making it up as we go along," and that's just fine with him.
Here's a brief clip of Dave doing his thing on his new show:
