Singer/actress Brandy Norwood, age 27, was involved in a fatal, four-car crash on December 30. Authorities say that the crash, which ended the life of a married, 38 year old, mother of one, Awatef Aboudihaj, was the reality TV judge’s fault. Apparently, she rear-ended Aboudihaj’s Honda with her Land Rover when traffic suddenly slowed down on Interstate 405 in Los Angeles. Aboudihaj’s car then hit another vehicle and slid sideways into the center divider where it was hit by yet another car. The victim, who was taken to nearby hospital, died of blunt-force injuries according to the coroner’s report.
The California Highway Patrol is recommending that the singer be formally charged with manslaughter. They have turned the case over to the city attorney’s office for review.
Brandy, who has already expressed her condolences to the victim’s family via her publicist, Courtney Barnes, could face up to one year in jail and a fine of $1,000 for the misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter. Investigators have ruled out drugs and alcohol as playing a part in the accident. Bill Sayed, a lawyer for the Aboudihaj family, has stated that they are in support of CHP’s recommendation.
