Vh-1 used to play music videos. That was back in the good old days. Now, that the network has hit reality TV platinum with Flavor of Love, they’re moving ahead and adding even more musician-inspired reality TV series to its roster.
This July Man Band and Rock of Love will premiere. Man Band follows the travels of a boy-band supergroup called Sureshot. The 90s were the heyday of boy bands and Sureshot takes four men – ‘cuz they are all grown up now – and has them trying to make it big again.
Who are the guys in Man Band?
Chris Kirkpatrick was the oldest member of ‘NSync. He helped Timberlake and the boys gain creative control over the musical and creative destinies before the band took an extended hiatus back in 2002. Chris started his own clothing line back in 1999. FuMan Skeeto, however, is no more.
Chris allowed the other three dudes to hang at his crib in Orlando during the series’ shoot.
Rich Cronin sang “Summer Girls” as the front man of LFO (Lite Funky Ones). The Massachusetts native, who used to date Ghost Whisperer hottie, Jennifer Love Hewitt, has been battling leukemia for a few years. He also released a CD with a band called Loose Cannons in 2006.
Jeff Timmons helped found 98 Degrees with his pals, the Lachey brothers. He is a divorced dad. His solo CD, Whisper That Way, was released in 2004 and performed quite well on the adult contemporary charts.
Bryan Abrams is twice divorced. The former Color Me Badd singer is working hard to get his life and career back on track. In 2005, he and other boy-banders such as Jordan Knight (New Kids on the Block) and Nick Carter (Backstreet Boys) released a single entitled Believe to aid Hurricane Katrina Victims.
Bret Michaels, the lead singer/songwriter of 80s glam rock/metal band Poison, who had hits with "Unskinny Bop" and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", is heading to reality TV too this summer. He’s going to star in Rock of Love. Bret, who used to date Pamela Anderson – before Tommy Lee – is looking for a lady who can handle the fact that performing is his first love.
He’ll spend time with 20 ladies in an LA mansion. The women will perform challenges à la Flavor of Love. Hopefully, the women will be classy enough not to poop on his floor.
Bret, who recently released a solo CD, will also be reuniting with the band that made him famous. Poison, which also features guitarist CC Deville (recently of Vh-1’s Surreal Life: Fame Games) will be hitting the studio later this year to record a new album.
