Sanjaya’s elimination from American Idol. Sanjaya Malakar’s appearance in the Top 24 wasn’t really questioned. He was good enough to get there. However, cracks in Sanjaya’s performances were seen as soon as the top twelve were announced, perhaps even before. When fan favorite Chris Sligh was booted before Malakar, folks began to cry foul.

Radio shock jock Howard Stern encouraged people to vote for Malakar as a joke and keep him in the competition. His very presence in the competition polarized a nation and really irked more than a few of us, including a very vocal Simon Cowell.

Malakar’s elimination came, for many, several weeks too late. However, his swan song was bittersweet as he encouraged America to find something else to ‘talk about’ besides his ‘hair.’
