We might as well give Melinda Doolittle the American Idol crown right now. Who the heck needs a 2 hour finale? You know she’s going to win. She had her hair extensions in and looked fierce even if she has the personality of a sweet little kitty cat. Melinda knocked each of her three songs out of the ballpark and was the judges’ favorite of the night. Big surprise, right?
Her rendition of Ike & Tina Turner’s “Nutbush City Limits”, an ode to Tina’s hometown in Tennessee, was killer. It was a throwback to the diva herself, a true tour de force, y’all. It was R&B rock. Yup! Melinda created a new genre. Well, almost. Tina’s been an R&B rocker for decades. I rate it growling good.
Of course, Blake Lewis was no slouch last night. His three songs were entertaining. I enjoyed his version of Maroon 5’s “This Love” more than the other two songs he did. Like Simon, I agree that if you do a Police song like “Roxanne”, you’ll be compared to Sting…and come up short. Who the heck can compare with Sting?
I think Blake’s going to go home because someone has to and I feel we’ve been building up to a Jordin-Melinda finale. I am pretty sure if the powers that be at American Idol have their way, he’ll be out the door.
Let’s not take anything away from Miz Sparks. Jordin had two great performances with Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money” and Shirley Bassey’s “I Who Have Nothing”. She’s a powerhouse vocalist. Of course, DialIdol has her set to go home, but I think she’ll make it through. She’s got my vote!
What do you think? Who’s going home? Who’s going to the finale? Will Melinda win? Comment below!
Hey y’all! Here’s Jordin’s first time out with I Who Have Nothing. It wasn’t as good as last night’s performance, but still a treat. Check it out:
