America’s Most Smartest Model has become, for us, a true treat. We love these whiny attractive people who hate each other. As we begin the action, we learn that it’s Daniel’s 24th birthday. The models get a note from Mary Alice telling them to get ready to celebrate his bday with dinner and a club trip. Daniel is thrilled that he’s getting some special attention; however, we learn from Mary Alice that this is just a ruse for the Edge Challenge. The models are being tested on their ability to network at the club with industry insiders such as casting director, Victoria Burrows (Lord of the Rings).
Everyone enjoys dinner. Daniel gets drunk and tries to talk his fellow contestants into getting sloshed too. Aussie Rachel has two drinks and is almost on the floor. Apparently, she doesn’t drink too often. At the club, Angela thinks that any guy who approaches her is trying to hit on her. She is kinda stand-offish and fails the Edge challenge miserably as does Aussie Rachel, who can’t seem to hold a convo.
Pickel gets touchy-feely with a pretty fashion designer. Andre, who isn’t a great diplomat anywhere, is too busy trying to pick up women to give the industry insiders the time of day. Brett is personable and realizes that a model should never miss an opportunity to put his name and face out there. He almost wins the Edge challenge.
However, VJ shows that he’s very hungry for this competition. He is business-smart AND we’re thoroughly impressed with him. VJ knows that there is no such thing as a ‘night off’ in this competition and scores big with each of the industry insiders. He’s built up some amazing opportunities for himself and Mary Alice takes note.
Daniel, unfortunately, is book smart but has no common sense. He was completely duped by the ruse and when he enters the “VIP” lounge, seeing Mary Alice and the industry insiders there, he hugs her and thanks her for coming out to his birthday party. (LOL!)
Afterwards, Daniel, Angela and Aussie Rachel complain about being tricked. They are upset that they didn’t do better. Daniel just can’t get over it and throws stuff all around the house upon their return. He rants and rails over the situation for a good portion of the evening, which is pretty entertaining. However, it is a major reason why VJ, who won the Edge Challenge, gives him only 1 minute to shoot when they arrive at their Call Back Challenge.
Andre gets two minutes. Brett gets four minutes. Pickel – 6 minutes. The girls get eight and ten minutes. VJ receives 30 minutes and first pick of animal. They’re on a farm and doing a ‘country-style’ photo shoot in denim. VJ takes the horse. Unfortunately, all these advantages yield a cheesy picture. Mary Alice tells him that he’s smart but needs more modeling experience and should buddy-up to Andre, which we know is never going to happen.
Andre, who takes the llama because it, like he, spits, nearly strangles the poor animal to keep it line. What a jerk! However, he gets a great shot and wins the Call Back and immunity to the next round. He and VJ almost get into it. Instead, Andre enacts revenge by aligning with Pickel and Brett to get rid of him. Later on, they add Aussie Rachel to the alliance.
Interesting!
Everyone else is pretty underwhelming except for Pickel. He and his chicken have a serious love affair going on. It was awesomely funny. We love Pickel. Angela, Daniel and Aussie Rachel land in the bottom three. Daniel, after suffering through the worst birthday of his life last night and a one-minute terror-fest with an ostrich today, gets clipped.
Ouch!
