Halloween night was a fitting time to hold The Search for the Next Elvira finale. One thing’s for sure – Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, knows her fans. The finale itself was a bit ho-hum and heavy on recaps and clips. Boring!
The audience was all ‘dolled’ up in honor of the holiday … or, perhaps because most of those people prefer to dress up normally. We’re not sure.
The first wannabe Elvira clipped was Austin’s own Kitty Corvette. Kitty plays in my hometown with two bands. One is called Black Molly, and they’re pretty good if you like ‘alternative/country’. If you’re ever in town, check ‘em out at Emo’s.
Kitty received the fewest votes and took her departure in stride.
Jenny and April were neck in neck for a bit. It seemed that the show was going to squeeze as much life out of this finale as possible, but we felt they ended up beating a dead horse. It felt like an eternity between Kitty’s ‘un-death’ and Jenny’s dismissal.
We liked Jenny, but…only one could be the next Elvira and undergo the breast, we mean best, training program in the industry. April, an actress with (gasp!) naturally light hair, had the true assets for the job. She earned the right to work under Elvira and heck our husbands wouldn’t mind one bit watching that show.
Congrats, ladies for a great season. We hope that FOX Reality finds a way to work Elvira back into our lives with more regularity. This campy, comedic and classic competition was truly a joy to watch. We’re sort of sad that it, like Halloween, is over (for now).
