Gene Simmons is a good daddy, maybe too good. The legendary rock lothario is very protective of his spawn, particularly his little girl, Sophie. At the age of 14, Sophie has the makings of a legendary beauty. While hanging out in London at a party with her brother, she’s spotted by a photog. He wants to take pictures of Sophie.
Gene is immediately skeptical of this dude. Why? Because Gene, better than anyone, knows that men are pigs. He presumes the gent’s intentions with his precious daughter are less than stellar. Therefore, he agrees to meet with the photog in Paris. He gives the guy a hard time, which upsets Sophie and almost blows the deal for her.
The shoot does happen, but Gene isn’t above making things even more difficult for the photog. For example, when the photog wants Sophie to take a pic in the street, he’s like, “Oh no! That’s not safe.”
What is she – three? To her credit, Sophie stands up to daddy and tells him to cool it which he does. Who wears that pants in that relationship, I wonder? Regardless, the pictures come out beautiful.
Now, Nick, on the other hand, is going through some growing pains of his own. He finds a cute girl in London to spend some time with. She makes him think that he should go to school overseas. (Hey, she was cute, but not that cute…)
When Nick begins searching application requirements to UK colleges, Shannon has a bit of a fit. She doesn’t want her baby to leave her. As a mom, I can relate to this. Gene and Shannon love their kids. They’re good, hands-on parents in an industry that doesn’t see too much of that. Sophie and Nick are good kids who are trying to work on their lives and love their family.
Episodes like this one remind me of how special Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels is. The dynamic the Simmons-Tweed clan has going on is one that most families aspire too. Unlike the dysfunctional families that populate our sitcoms and reality TV series, the Tweed-Simmons have genuine love, respect and a healthy dose of humor to keep them going.
