Jordin Sparks, the 17 year old beauty from Arizona with the powerful vocals and sunny smile, has won the sixth season of American Idol. Throughout the competition, Jordin showed a lot of spunk and maturity. The daughter of former NFL player Phillippi Sparks capped off an interesting and controversial season with the win.
The season finale was truly star-studded featuring performances by all top ten finalists, Gwen Stefani, Green Day, Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight and four out of the last five Idols, among others. (Fantasia couldn’t be there ‘cuz she’s currently starring on Broadway in The Color Purple.)
Clive Davis gave Carrie Underwood a special commendation for her debut CD, Some Hearts…and we had some awards for the craziest contestants who didn’t make it to Hollywood including the “Big Bird” lady and the “bush baby.” The audience was full of fans, Idol alums and celebs such as David Hasselhoff, who I didn’t see cry once this evening, Teri Hatcher, Justin Guarini, Constantine Maroulis and Jerry Springer.
The two-hour plus show ended on an emotional note with Jordin singing “This is My Now” the song voted on by you, America, in the American Idol songwriting competition. All I can say about the song is that it’s not “Inside Your Heaven”, okay?
Listen to it again if you don’t believe me. It’s not the performance that’s bad. Ugh!
