Last Wednesday, the designers were given out-dated trends such as baggy sweaters, neon, cutouts and overalls by judge Nina Garcia. Then, they were instructed to get into groups of three and choose a team lead. The goal was to modernize these trends and put together a cohesive, three-piece collection.
Chris, Sweet Pea and Steven created a ‘Golden-Girls’ collection. Sweet Pea, at least, redeemed herself from the previous week’s menswear debacle. Her sweater dress was cute and incorporated the trends very well. However, Chris’ fabric choices were costume-y at best and ugly at worst. Steven’s look just didn’t fit.
Christian, Kit and Jack put together a cool collection utilizing the zoot suit. They worked well together and the collection flowed. Each made it through to the next round without any problem.
That much can not be said for the team of Ricky, Victorya and Elisa. Elisa did well with the difficult fabric choice. She certainly listened to her team leader and played well with others. Victorya argued with Ricky every step of the way. She should’ve taken the leadership role because she obviously wasn’t happy with Ricky’s leadership and made more problems every step of the way. Ricky, for his part, chose a terrible fabric to work with. His design was the least accomplished of the three and he almost got sent home for it.
Despite being concerned with Kevin’s progress during the challenge, Jessica, Rami and Kevin had a great collection. They took Jillian’s 70s sensibilities and incorporated a killer style, contemporizing outdated looks and turning them into something that folks would actually enjoy wearing. They clearly deserved the win.
In the end, Chris’ choices with fabric and leadership sent him home.
