And the winner is...Anthony (Credit: Bravo TV)
The season finale of Shear Genius is over. I must say that each of the stylists was very deserving of the win. They were each very talented. Ben, who I felt was not as advanced as either Daisy or Anthony, really pulled out all the stops. He did a beautiful “Nancy Kwan” bob, an homage to mentor/guest judge Vidal Sassoon. In fact, I think he could’ve won had he not chosen to do an updo on his first model. It was a mess.
Daisy tried very hard to go for the “S” concept. As she said, an “S” is the basis of a curl. Unfortunately, she mismanaged her time and didn’t alter her concept accordingly. Her last model’s hair was unfinished and the middle model, although sexy, looked more Brigitte Bardot than modern sex kitten.
However, if I lived anywhere near Miami, I’d probably make sure Daisy did my hair. Overall, she was the favorite going into the finale. I feel she was dead last in tonight’s competition, when it really counted.
Lo siento, chica, pero es la verdad.
This leaves our winner, Anthony. It’s fitting that Anthony won tonight when Vidal Sassoon was watching over the finalists. Anthony, who hails from the UK, trained at a Sassoon salon before crossing The Pond. His precision hair-cutting was brilliant and his color was gorgeous. The mahogany tones on his middle model were awesome. Where can I get me some?
All in all, I’d say that this was a very satisfying end to a wonderful and surprising season. I think the judges got it right, and, well…I can’t wait for Shear Genius 2. C’mon Bravo!
