Bye Bye Dave (Credit: CBS)
Zhan Hu is falling apart at the seams. Dave appointed himself leader of the tribe, but no one really respects or cares about his leadership. The tribe complains that he’s rude and condescending. However, they don’t mind breaking his back so they don’t have to. After losing the reward challenge, in which a local family came to teach the winning tribe how to fish as well as cook them a much-needed meal, Fei Long kidnapped Dave.
This gave Zhan Hu the opportunity to see that 1) they could survive without him and 2) things are a bit nicer – there’s no conflict – without him. These factors don’t bode well for Dave’s longevity in the game. He knows this and tries to change people’s minds because, as you can well imagine, Zhan Hu also lost the immunity challenge.
Dave did have a good time while kidnapped. He tried to make new alliances. He certainly got a good meal. Denise, the lunch lady, and Aaron learned how to fish using special birds that do the work for you. It was pretty awesome to watch. This reward can only help Fei Long going forward. Also helpful is the fact that Jean-Robert speaks Mandarin. Without him, the tribe wouldn’t have had such a productive experience with the Chinese family.
Sherea showed her tribe that she wasn’t willing to work around camp. She is saving her energy for challenges. The fact is – that if Zhan Hu won more challenges, her argument would be more palatable. Of course, her tribe didn’t seem to make that connection and voted the work horse out on his tail.
Next week, we’ll see how Zhan Hu survives without Dave and if they can pull it together.
