We loved Heather Kuzmich on this season of “America’s Next Top Model.” The lovely and lanky girl with Asperger’s Syndrome has taken some of the most stunning pictures in Top Model history. Unfortunately, Heather has difficulty, in no small part due to her disability, with commercial work. She has trouble memorizing lines and is excessively shy and awkward in social situations.
The past few weeks, we’ve watched Heather’s star decline on the show. It’s been a difficult thing to watch. We agree that Heather should’ve gone home last night but we don’t like it one little bit. She’s a breath of fresh air in an industry that says it wants ‘personality’ but really seems to encourage girls to be anything but who they really are inside.
Saleisha and Bianca might be better suited for the industry. Both girls navigated the streets of Shanghai better than anyone and made it back from their go-sees with time to spare. They get the business side of it and will be successful. However, Heather had more to learn and could probably benefit a great deal from Tyra’s tutelage…perhaps, more so than the girls who can go out and book jobs on their own NOW.
Jenah, who was almost sent home, was called down for her sarcasm and lack of personality. The judges, the designers and even her fellow models seem to think that she doesn’t care about the business. Maybe she’s just a laid-back kind of girl who can maintain a healthy disconnect in an industry that focuses on images and creating an ‘alternate’ reality.
Maybe we’re just cranky because we didn’t have our coffee this morning. Heather’s out. Jenah, Bianca, Saleisha and Chantal go to Beijing. We couldn’t care less. Now that Heather’s gone so too is our interest in this ho-hum season.
How about you? Does Heather’s departure mean something to you? Do you agree or disagree with the panel’s decision?
