Because the writer’s strike refuses to end (c’mon producers, give in to the demands. Writers deserve to be paid for their work…and we’re not just saying that ‘cuz we’re writers!) we had nothing to watch on Wednesday after “American Idol.” So we, like millions of other Americans watched FOX’s new game show, “The Moment of Truth.”
Contestants are asked about 50 questions prior to broadcast. They are hooked up to a lie detector. The lie detector determines if they were being truthful. During the show, they are asked 21 out of those questions with friends and family watching…and the audience and the US viewing public. Some of these questions are rather personal such as ‘Do you have a gambling problem?’ or ‘Have you delayed having children because you don’t think your wife is going to be your lifelong partner?’
As you can clearly see, these questions can ruin careers, relationships and perhaps freedom. Yup! Potentially illegal activities are not off-limits.
This show might award $500,000 to some greedy individual. However, the questions are just really inappropriate. We would never go on the show. Of course, as long as FOX airs it, we’ll probably watch other people talk about things we have no right to know because we’re nosy.
Why the series is an hour-long – we aren’t sure because there’s only 17 minutes of program in it with the commercials and lag time for the breathy, computer voice to tell us whether the contestant is being truthful or not.
As we’ve said, we will continue to watch “Moment of Truth” until something better comes along and well, we kinda hate ourselves for watching. What about you? Did you watch? Did you enjoy it? Would you ever consider being a contestant on this series?
