So You Think You Can Dance is one of my summer guilty pleasures. The series, which is brought to you by most of the same people behind American Idol – perhaps you’ve heard of that little show – is solid entertainment. It’s not nearly as cheesy as Dancing with the Stars and no one makes the cut unless they can really dance.
Nigel Lythgoe, a former tap dancer/choreographer, is a tough but fair head judge. He shows that the Brits don’t have to be rude to get their point across. (Take that Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan!) And Mary Murphy, a ballroom goddess, is the sweetest and most exuberant judge ever. (Sorry, Paula.)
The contestants work very hard and put their bodies through some serious challenges.World-renowned choreographers like Shane Sparks, Wade Robison and Mia Michaels put these kids through their paces. Their routines are artistic, difficult and exquisite. I just love to watch them.
Each week, the dancers who received the least amount of votes dance for their life in special and achingly short solo showcases.
If you haven’t yet watched So You Think You Can Dance, don’t you think it’s time you did?
