Tim Gunn is some kind of superhero. The breakout star of “Project Runway” can take a drab, frumpy hausfrau and turn her into a confident goddess in less than week. Well, he does have a little help from his friends such as supermodel Veronica Webb, makeup artist, Trish McEvoy, lifestyle coach, Jason Weiss and hairdresser, John Barrett.

Of course, Gunn comes armed with some serious fashion rules. He literally wrote the book on it. Gunn proves that he doesn’t play with fashion. In fact, he requires each of his wannabe swans to adhere to them. They’ve got to sign a bonafide contract before he and Ms. Webb begin the fashion overhaul. And when we say overhaul, we aren’t kidding. Tim and Veronica go through people’s closets and underwear drawers. Oh yes! They show your skivvies on national TV.

Then, they force you to put your wardrobe into four piles: keepers, menders, throwaways and giveaways. The giveaways are given to Dress for Success, “a nonprofit organization that provides interview suits, confidence boosts and career development to low-income women in over 75 cities worldwide.”

The following day, Veronica takes the ladies to get properly fitted for lingerie. It’s a grueling process that requires a lot of stamina and self-confidence. Then, they head to Tim’s office where the gals get measured from a variety of angles. Those measurements are put into a computer program that helps them choose some of their best possible looks. It’s the scariest thing we’ve ever seen on TV. Oh the humanity!

Gunn also shows the gals his armoire that features goodies like shoes, hand bags and bling-bling, the perfect accessories to help them pull their looks together.

The ladies eventually go shopping with Veronica Webb for their essentials. Gunn provides them with a list and eventually steps in to help steer the ladies away from no-nos such as floral prints and horizontal stripes.

In the end, the lady reveals herself in a fantastic fashion show. She’s given gifts, lavished with attention and cries…a lot.

Sure, we admit that this isn’t much different from other makeover shows. Gunn isn’t reinventing the wheel here. However, his personality is enough to “make it work.” Gunn is passionate about what he does and truly believes that fashion can transform lives. He’s so into the concept that he almost makes a believer out of the viewer, and that, in a nutshell, is why it’s good to watch “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style”. It currently airs on Bravo TV each Thursday at 10/9c.
