What happens when you take a group of people and put them in a house together, throw in cameras that watch their every move and make them compete for a substantial cash prize? Big Brother attempts to answer this question and many others.
Each week, contestants take part in competitions that choose a leader, called the Head of Household, and are designed to make the pecking order clear. One player is evicted each week by a majority vote. Talk about drama. Even novelist George Orwell couldn't have foreseen this when he wrote his classic 1984, in which the concept of "big brother" was first expressed.
